about brenda
Brenda Kent Colina is a Mexican multi-disciplinary artist currently based in the seaside town of Ucluelet (Nuu-chah-nulth territory). Born in Mexico City, she spent her early years cradled by colour and warmth. At the age of eight, Brenda immigrated to Canada and was astounded to see just how tall a tree could grow and a mountain could be. This grief of cultural loss and reverence for nature reverberate in her art to this day.
A graduate from SFU's Film program, she channels her visual skills through documentary storytelling. Brenda also writes poetry. While her projects are varied, many promote well-being (especially within BIPOC communities) and advocate for the protection of our natural environment. When away from these realms, she can be found looking for mushrooms or lifting weights.
